File Transfer
- File Transfer

Privacy Overview
File Transfer is designed around on-device storage and LAN-based peer-to-peer transfer. It does not require an account or rely on a public cloud backend by default. Data is handled only when you intentionally send files, receive files, scan connection codes, import shared items, or enable transfer notifications.
1. Information We Handle
- Device name, device identifier, nearby-device records, starred devices, grouping settings, download directory, transfer history, recoverable sessions, and the file metadata you choose to transfer are stored locally on your current device.
- When you send or receive files, the app exchanges only the device details, connection code, session state, file metadata, and transfer progress needed to establish and maintain the transfer on the same LAN, Wi-Fi, or hotspot.
- When you scan a QR code or analyze one from an image, the app accesses camera or photo permissions only after you grant them.
- When you import files from the system share sheet, Android share intents or the iOS Share Extension read and temporarily stage only the files you explicitly choose to share on your own device.
- When background-transfer support is enabled, Android may show a foreground-service notification that only reflects transfer status.
- On some Android devices, nearby discovery, hotspot optimization, or Wi-Fi identification may require location-related permission because of platform networking restrictions.
2. Why We Handle It
- To discover devices on the same network, establish connections, send files, receive files, and support resumable transfer sessions.
- To store your chosen preferences, including download directory, auto receive, duplicate-file strategy, integrity checks, and background-transfer behavior.
- To support QR pairing, image-based code recognition, system-share import, and transfer notifications when you intentionally use those features.
- To verify file integrity, recover resumable sessions, and help you manage local caches and history.
3. Data Boundaries and Network Scope
- File Transfer is currently designed without a public internet cloud backend, so transferred files and local history are not automatically uploaded to public servers by default.
- Transfers only occur within the local-network or device-sharing flow you choose to use. Avoid transferring sensitive files on untrusted networks.
- We do not sell your file contents, device records, or local history.
4. Permissions and System Capabilities
- Files / Storage access: for selecting files to send, saving received files, importing shared items, and exporting settings files.
- Camera / Photos: for scanning connection QR codes or recognizing connection codes from images.
- LAN / Wi-Fi / Hotspot: for nearby-device discovery, peer-to-peer transfer setup, and local service broadcasting.
- Notifications / Foreground service: for showing system status during background transfers.
- Location-related permission on some Android devices: only to satisfy platform restrictions around Wi-Fi and nearby-network identification, not for map use or continuous location tracking.
5. Your Choices
- You can enable receive mode, QR scanning, background notifications, or auto receive only when needed.
- You can revoke camera, photo, notification, or location-related permissions in system settings.
- You can clear temporary cache, remove recoverable sessions, and delete local device records or downloaded content from your device.
- If you do not want the app to process file contents, do not select files to send and do not import them through the system share flow.
